| Double Job Shock for Greater Manchester
Woolworths administrators have announced 70 jobs are to go at their distribution site in Rochdale. Woolworths has had its distribution site in Castleton for 40 years and is one of the town’s largest employers. It’s also believed suppliers of Woolworths have been removing stock stored at the Castleton warehouse over the last few days.
Another Greater Manchester firm has also called the administrators in. The kitchen firm based in Bolton have announced 140 jobs are to go.

Greggs the bakers plans to open ten new bakeries in the North West which is good news for jobs in the region. The exact sites have not yet been named but this expansion.
Mike Kavanagh from Greggs, said: "The current economic climate is certainly affecting Greggs, as we are seeing fewer people on the high street, and our customers have to think very carefully about what they spend their money on.
"However, we are ideally placed to weather the storm.
"In fact we are confident that we will come out of this downturn in an even stronger position and that is why we are continuing to invest significantly in new shops as well as our existing estate."
Manchester is home to one of Greggs most profitable shops. The bakery based in Spinningfields in Manchester city centre serves around 700 people every day and sells over 4,000 sausage rolls a week.
Manchester to Get a New Holiday Inn Hotel
The construction of a new Holiday Inn Hotel is going to start in early 2009. Manchester planning and environmental consultants How Planning has gained permission for the new 147 room hotel.
The Stephenson Bell designed building will be built opposite the BBC’s New Broadcasting House. The proposals also include a leisure facility which will benefit the city. |
